Violence at Howe Community Park Wounds 4 People Shot in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Sacramento authorities are probing a shooting incident that erupted Saturday evening at Howe Community Park at the time law enforcement were clearing a large unsanctioned party of several hundred people.

Prior to the Shooting

Sacramento County law enforcement first arrived at the park around 6:30 PM on April 18 after obtaining information of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Following that, a follow-up call was made about a reported physical confrontation taking place near the park.

An overhead unit conducted an aerial sweep but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Nevertheless, it was evident that an enormous crowd had come together at the location without authorization.

The Moment Gunfire Erupted

Deputies began the process of clearing the park by positioning themselves around the crowd and issuing commands over loudspeakers ordering the assembled crowd to disperse at once. About 15 minutes were provided for people to comply.

While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that 20 to 25 gunshots cut through the air. The barrage of gunfire caused mass panic. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies immediately began looking for those injured.

Four Gunshot Victims

Ultimately, four individuals were discovered with shooting injuries. The victims — made up of one woman and three men all reportedly in their twenties — were brought to Sacramento area hospitals. Doctors and nurses indicated that two had critical injury classifications, one had moderate injuries, and one suffered minor injuries. In a positive development, all four were in stable condition.

Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and provided medical assistance the four victims before they were taken to the hospital.

Crime Scene Evidence

The bulk of the shooting was believed to have occurred along the Cottage Way side of the park alongside the Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Investigators located more spent casings along Cottage Way. Bullet holes were also found in the wrought iron fence adjacent to the Home Depot. These discoveries pointed to that at least one shooter had been sending rounds south from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Sacramento park shooting 2026 Home Depot was temporarily locked down during the incident. CSI investigators and detectives continued working for hours.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Details gathered over police scanner frequencies confirmed that a Kia vehicle had been stopped in nearby Solano County. Four people were held for questioning. Law enforcement units were heading to pick up the four detainees to return them to Sacramento for formal questioning. Surveillance footage showed that two shooters had been involved.
